The important role of carers
In conjunction with Sarcoma Awareness Month this year, we collaborated with the Sock it to Sarcoma! to focus on challenges of being a carer, practical help, research on unmet needs of carers, resources and support for carers.
Mandy Basson (Sock it to Sarcoma!) shared her experience as a carer of a sarcoma patient and that a carer is not just a single role but covers a wide range of roles including parent/partner/sibling, nurse, social worker, counsellor, etc. She also shared about the ways to cope.
A/Prof Georgia Halkett (Senior research fellow, Curtin University) spoke about her research on "Exploring the unmet need of carers of sarcoma patients.
Lee Westbrook (carer) shared her experience as a carer of a sarcoma patient.
